French-Caribbean author Alfred Alexandre in Miami Book Fair International

French Caribbean author, Alfred Alexandre, will be in Miami from November 15th to 20th to participate in the "Read Caribbean" program of the Miami Book Fair International'  in a panel entitled Voix de la Caraïbe / “Caribbean: Illuminate!”. During his visit, M. Alexandre will also visit French language departments in local schools (ISPA, ISCH, Carver) and discuss his latest work at the University of Miami. On November 15th at 4:30pm, the Department of Modern Languages & Literatures at the University of Miami and the French Embassy Cultural Services are hosting a "Conversation with Caribbean writer Alfred Alexandre" at the Alumni Center.

About Alfred Alexandre:
Alfred Alexandre was born on December 14, 1970, in Fort-de-France (Martinique). He studied philosophy in Paris and then returned to Martinique as a professor of philosophy and lecturer at the University of Antilles and French Guyana.
He is considered one of the new voices of Caribbean literature. His first novel Bord de canal (The Edge of the Channel Edge) won the award Prix des Amériques insulaires et de la Guyane in 2006, and his first play La nuit caribéenne (Caribbean Night) was selected among the ten best Francophone texts in the Écriture Théâtrale Contemporaine de la Caraïbe contest in 2007. Mémoire d’encrier published Alexandre’s essay “Aimé Césaire, la part intime” and his novel Le bar des Amériques.

ReadCaribbean is a program highlighting Caribbean events such as readings and panel discussions, book signings, storytelling and music, but also the invitation of authors of children’s books that inspire and motivate young readers. Authors Mireille Jean-Gilles (Guyane Française), Yanick Lahens (Haïti), Jose “Stonko” Lewest (Guadeloupe), and Alfred Alexandre (Martinique) will discuss their work and their lived experiences, taking the audience on a journey through the numerous chapters of modern Caribbean life and history. 

The participation of Alfred Alexandre in the ReadCaribbean Panel of the Miami Book Fair International is made possible with the support of the French Embassy Cultural Services.
