Police confirmed the interception of a small quantity of drugs on a passenger arriving from Martinique at the Castries Ferry Terminal over the weekend.

According to Inspector Shervon Matthieu, officers attached to the Gangs, Narcotics and Firearms Unit responded to a report from the Customs and Excise Department on Friday, November 28, 2025, following a routine search conducted on a traveller.

The passenger, identified as Yanael Paravius, a French national of Martinique, arrived aboard the Express vessel from Martinique when customs officials discovered approximately four grams of cannabis resin concealed on his person.

The controlled substance was seized, properly packaged, sealed, and secured in accordance with established evidentiary procedures. As the quantity exceeded the legal limit, Paravius was charged under Section 42 of the Customs Act for the illegal importation of prohibited goods.

He was fined $1,500, which was paid immediately, and was subsequently released from police custody.

Meanwhile, officers of the Gangs, Narcotics and Firearms Unit in the south made another significant recovery during a targeted operation in Piaye, Choiseul, also on Friday, November 28, 2025.

During a systematic search of an open area within the designated operational zone, officers discovered one black .380 pistol, one magazine containing six rounds of .380 ammunition, and an additional 32 rounds of .380 ammunition.

No suspects were located or arrested in connection with the recovery at the time of the operation. The firearm and ammunition were photographed and properly packaged, sealed, and labeled in accordance with evidential procedures for further forensic examination.

Police said investigations into the recovery are ongoing. Authorities are urging members of the public to cooperate with ongoing law enforcement efforts and to provide any information that could assist in keeping communities safe.
